When Prohibition was enacted, Cuba—tantalisingly close to the US but untroubled by the alcohol ban—suddenly became party central for thirsty Americans. Airlines would organise "booze cruise" boat plane flights from Florida straight into Havana harbour. The local drink was rum and rum cocktails pioneered at famous bars like Sloppy Joe's and Floridita went on to become classics that we still drink today

April is the time of sakura, the much-anticipated cherry blossom season, so we're celebrating the strange melting pot of traditional and modern that was 1920s Japan—which gave rise to the "modern girl" Japanese flapper, an interest in jazz, an indigenous gangster movie genre and a unique local cocktail tradition. Kimonos welcome but by no means necessary!

A special St Valentine's event in a grand east London ballroom, with dancing to jazz from the London Dance Orchestra and DJ Auntie Maureen in the main hall, accompanied by Charleston dancers the Gatsby Girls, plus more music and two variety shows in the intimate Cabaret Lounge, and our fortune tellers Foxglove and Lucius. There is also the option to have dinner.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, which saw thousands of exotic, elegant, cultured, and frequently hard-up White Russians fleeing with their furs and their tastes for luxury and decadence, making an impression everywhere they landed, from Paris to Shanghai. There will be live music from Russian folk/jazz/klezmer band Atomek Soviet Swing. And there will be vodka courtesy of Stolichnaya
